THE BEGINNING.
in the tumet tribe, children are not named upon their birth, but rather on their tenth summer, when they are tied to a sacred tree and left by the tribe. if the child can break free, then they are welcomed into the tribe, and named.
no one thought yesun tumet would be one of those children. they were born with one blind eye, under a bad star. a symbol of misfortune, for sure. but they were small, and scrawny. they would not survive their tenth summer. there was no point in killing them. right?
and yet, they survived, stumbling towards their tribe a week after they had been tied to that tree, covered in blood, none of it theirs, teeth bared and eyes wild. their mother ran to them, tears of joy running down her face, and embraced them.
she named them yesun, meaning the number nine, a number that represented luck and abundance.
there was much going on in the backdrop of this. yesun's mother, sarnai, had married into the tumet tribe from the qalli tribe. everyone knew it was because she was in love with someone in the tribe. everyone knew it wasn't the man she'd married. batu hoped she'd come to love him when their child was born, but while sarnai adored her child, she did not care any more for him than she had before. batu blamed yesun for this, believed they were the misfortunate child everyone else said they were would taunt them and snarl at them when sarnai's back was turned.
it was training, he said. they needed to be strong. they were scrawny and weak. they needed to get stronger. but what he put them through was not training - it was obviously torture. from the age of ten, yesun was put through physical torment that they saw as just training, just getting stronger. it was normalised, to them. they were covered in scars by the age of thirteen, and so violent was the torment they were put through, they almost seemed numb to pain. yesun would shrug this off, in the future. besides, they'd say, it was a good thing. this numbness had saved them and others many times in the past! see? they were strong. they were strong. they were helpful. they were needed. they could be needed, be strong, be helfpul like this. they could. they didn't even mind being blamed for things beyond their control. it meant they were needed.
they were not alone, though. for all that they were blamed for every little thing going wrong in their tribe, for all that they were cursed and glared at, yesun was not alone. they had their mother, of course, and their little brother, anchin, who was named three summers after yesun was given theirs, and two boys who were named the same summer as them, as well: amar, who was sensitive and sickly, and uyaa, who was brash and loud. the three of them stayed together at any time they could.
everyone could tell amar and yesun were in love. it was obvious - they were childhood sweethearts. seventeen years old, and they held hands and laughed in the summer. he brought them flowers, and they kissed, quiet and gentle. it was happy. but it was not to be. amar was sickly, weak - it had been a miracle he'd survived the tree all those years ago. and one day, while the tribe was travelling, he collapsed, and did not get up.
the tribe collectively blamed yesun. it was yesun's influence, they said. they had been the one to make him die. it was their fault, their bad luck. suddenly, yesun was alone. uyaa, nineteen and full of wanderlust, with controlling parents, took this time to get close to yesun, comforted and defended them - and then became controlling. they entered the most unhealthy romantic relationship of yesun's life. what little friends they had, they lost, for uyaa would not let them see them. their reputation died.
and then, uyaa faked his death. yesun did not find out until years later, when they were in their 30s, what had happened. he had associated with them on purpose, because of their reputation - the tribe would not question his death. he changed his name and joined the buduga, leaving yesun, traumatized after their harrowing relationship, to bear the brunt of the blame. and yet, yesun persisted for four more years, until their mother died in a conflict with the dotharl tribe. knowing that it would be the final straw, their brother, anchin, told them to leave, but made them promise to return some day. he would miss them, but they'd be safer, out there, off the steppe.
they'd be safer, where their father, where their tribe, where uyaa could never touch them. and so, they went, left, to see the world beyond the steppe.
the enormity of my desire disgusts me.
A REALM REBORN.

for a year before they travel to ul'dah to train as a pugilist, yesun tumet was a sellsword. however, they decided to try to hone their fists - and promptly discovered they needed a weapon in hand. however, one thing it did do was take them to ul'dah for good, into contact with thancred waters, and therefore the scions of the seven dawn. in limsa lominsa they took up the rogue's arms, drawn in by the guild's creed of justice in the shadows.
and then, yesun tumet became the godkiller. and then, they became a living weapon. but they were needed. they were loved. right?
because i'm hollow and hungry and just want something to call my own.
HEAVENSWARD.

on their first day in ishgard, following the disaster of the royal banquet of ul'dah, yesun found the body of a dark knight, slaughtered over fifteen temple knights, and cut their hair. in that order.
the effect they would have on ishgard was beyond their imagining, as was the losses they'd suffer on the way. regardless, the darkness swelled within them, screamed and cried, why me? did yesun tumet only want to be loved?
the dragons' songs were familiar. if only they could work out why.
sorry about the blood in your mouth. i wish it was mine.

ROLEPLAY INFO
rules:
i won't roleplay with you if you write: pedophilia, transphobia, homophobia, abusive relationships, fetishise racism/oppression, if you're a nazi supporter/sympathiser/apologist. basically if you're shitty, i don't want you near me.yesun is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns. please do not ever misgender them, even IC.yesun has bpd, c-ptsd and psychosis, as well as autism and adhd. if anyone is weird or ableist about this i'm going to block them.yesun's backstory deals with transphobia, child abuse and emotional abuse. they're something of a vent oc for me, so all of these things are taken from my own experiences. regardless, please stay safe while consuming their content.i primarily rp on discord. i find ingame rp clunky and hard to follow, sorry. feel free to /tell me ingame for my discord!yesun is a heavily canon divergent WoL. although they follow most of the plot threads in the game, one notable divergence is that they are a reincarnation of ratatoskr, and have their memories (and aether) returned to them by the end of shadowbringers.
